Nine site-specific audio tours through the streets of New York City
Soundwalks
“Site-Specific Performance: Art, Activism and Public Space,” a Gallatin Arts Workshop taught by Professor Martha Bowers, looks at the development of site-specific performance with a special emphasis on projects that engage with social issues and include activist agendas. In fall 2014, each student created a “soundwalk,” an audio tour beginning at a fixed point in New York City, as a mid-semester assignment. These soundwalks are designed to be downloaded to a mobile device then listened to as you are guided through a mediated experience of a particular urban space.
