A take on the original Dyke TV segment dedicated to normalizing lesbianism and childhood while exploring the often confusing relationship of lesbians (at any age) to the camera/male gaze.
I Was a Lesbian Child
“Dyke TV was a public access program founded by Mary Patierno, Ana Marie Simo, and Linda Chapman in 1993 and its “I Was a Lesbian Child” segment sought to normalize lesbian lives and childhoods. Building on that mission, I use the segment to explore the confusing relationship of lesbians (at any age) to the camera/male gaze through the photographs that document that unnamed tension.”—Nyelah Sawyer
