The Concept of Otherness in Speculative Fiction

Nucleus explores how students cultivate theory and practice in their diverse fields of research at NYU’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study. Through interviews focused on the process of developing an individualized Rationale and Concentration, the podcast seeks to elucidate the natures and possibilities of interdisciplinary study.

In the show’s debut episode, Bryanna Gary (BA ’20) discusses how narratives “other” certain groups of people, and how speculative fiction can address and ameliorate those narratives.

Other nuclei: Friday Black by Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah, 2018; “Against Innocence” by Jackie Wang, 2014.
