“I believe that photography embodies the spirit of laconism, which is defined as being concise yet expressive. For the most part, an image is limited to one shot or scene, sometimes with very little context. Nevertheless, a good photograph is still able to say so much despite these physical and contextual limitations. For this collection, I strive to tell a story by combining images that each depict a full scene within themselves. Although there are not a large number of images, there is still a lot of articulation and communication. Ultimately, every photograph tells a story on its own, but when brought together, we are able to see the bigger picture.”—Emma Comrie
Two images from “Laconism” appear in The Gallatin Review, Volume 33, which will be released at a celebration reading on Tuesday, April 24, 2018.
